Tobacco Free Nebraska is the state’s comprehensive tobacco prevention program. We are excited to have you join us in working toward a healthier Nebraska.
With our coalitions and other partners across the state, we want to help people quit tobacco, eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke and aerosol, protect our youth by keeping them from using tobacco, including e-cigarettes, and reach the underserved populations that are sometimes missed.
When Tobacco Free Nebraska references tobacco on this website, we are referring to commercial tobacco and not the sacred and traditional use of tobacco by some American Indian communities.

About Tobacco Free Nebraska
Since its inception, the Tobacco Free Nebraska (TFN) program has received various levels of funding in order to do its work.
Since 2004, state funding has been relatively stable. At that time, the Nebraska Unicameral allocated $2.57 million annually to TFN from the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement. This amount fluctuates slightly every year based on legislative appropriation.
Additionally, TFN receives approximately $1 million from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The program works to:
- Help people quit,
- Eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke,
- Keep youth from starting,
- Reach underserved populations.
In order to meet these goals, there are several components to the program, including:
- school, community, and outreach programs,
- sponsoring the Nebraska Tobacco Quitline,
- youth empowerment, and
- media campaigns to raise awareness about the health effects of secondhand smoke and promote the Quitline and tobacco cessation.
