Mortality reviews are assessments to look at information gathered about a person who has died. A registered nurse will look at information about the participant's health and safety, and make recommendations as needed to prevent future deaths.
Liberty Healthcare, in partnership with DDD, started completing mortality reviews for all four waivers in July 2021.
Liberty uses an electronic Quality Management Data System (QIDS) to complete mortality reviews, gather data, and perform trend analysis. Liberty co-chairs the Mortality Review Committee (MRC), which is responsible for monitoring mortality trends and making data-driven recommendations that lead to quality improvements for participants of HCBS waiver services and people living at the Beatrice State Developmental Center.
In March 2022, DDD's internal Quality Improvement Committee (QIC) accepted several system-wide quality improvement recommendations made by the MRC.
